2023 Immigrant Youth Empowerment Conference:
UNDOCU HUSTLE

The Immigrant Youth Empowerment Conference (IYECon) is an all-day conference that aims to provide resources and tools to all youths and their families, regardless of their immigration status, to be empowered and organize within their communities. We have tracks designed for high school students, college students, and educators.

Donations will go to cover the cost of honorariums, food, and more.

Financing Your Education: Applying to college is quite the struggle. No worries! You will surely get the basics to funding your path to higher education with this workshop. Financiando Tu Educaciรณn: Aplicar a la universidad es toda una lucha. ยกNo hay problema! Obtendrรกs los conceptos bรกsicos para financiar tu camino hacia la educaciรณn superior con este taller. Aquรญ aprenderรกn sobre los diferentes medios que los jรณvenes inmigrantes antes de ustedes han utilizado y sobre los nuevos que estรกn disponibles para ustedes ahora. Facilitated By: Jesus Perez

*Combatting the School-to-Prison-to-Deportation Pipeline: *Not for students* This workshop is designed for educators to explore the political context weโ€™re working in today. Participants will have a chance to reflect on how the school-to-prison-to-deportation pipeline shows up in their work with youth and steps educators can take to support undocumented and immigrant youth and families in schools.

Opportunity for All: In this workshop, we will learn about the Opportunity For All Campaign in California, an effort to get paid opportunities for undocumented students. We will also learn about the hair braidersโ€™ professional licenses campaign. Facilitated By: NYU - Immigrant Rights Clinic & African Communities Together

Options:

Youth Organizing 101: In this workshop we discuss what youth organizing is, the origins of youth organizing, and the impact that organizing has in our communities.

Painting on A Canvas: Join us as we participate in a fun and engaging painting workshop where you will be able to display/share your creative side and ideas.

Sex Ed: Come learn about safe sex practices and how we are impacted by laws as immigrant youth. It will be fun! Facilitated by: Ana Vera

*Resources to Support Undocu Youth and Families: *Not for students* This workshop will cover basic knowledge and resources that educators can use to support undocumented youth. We will also share tips and tricks that are useful in starting and supporting a Dream Team in your school. Facilitated by: TeachDream

How I Make Money By Being in a Worker Cooperative: In this workshop, we will talk about being a part of Sunset Scholars LLC and how worker cooperatives can be an entrepreneurial alternative if you are undocumented. Facilitated By: Carlos Daniel

Post Secondary Options: Are you thinking about what to do after high school? Join us to learn about what options there are after graduation, whether you choose to take a gap year, go to college directly after high school, choose to go to trade school, or go directly into the workforce.

Collage Making & Immigrant Women Talk: *This is a closed space for immigrant women.* We will discuss how as immigrant women we make decisions over our bodies and own our immigration stories and journeys. We will talk about building community and showing up for each other, while making collages. Facilitated By: Maria Vera, Leslie Ramirez

*Making our Institutions Undocu Friendly: *Not for students* Learn how to create and support a Dream Team in your school. This will be led by TeachDream and current club advisors.

How I Make Money By Being in a Worker Co-Op: In this workshop speakers will share about their experiences as consultants at Radiate Consulting and how worker cooperatives are a way to make money if you are undocumented. Facilitated By: Franklin Salazar and Evelyn Torres

Options:

Immigration Timeline Jeopardy: In this workshop we discuss the origins of migration in the United States by having an interactive game of Jeopardy!

The College Application Process: The college application process can be a stressful and confusing time. In this workshop we will do an overview of what the college application process looks like for undocumented students.

How I Make Money by Selling a Service/Experience: In this workshop speakers will share how they make money detailing cars, bartending, nannying, and more. Facilitated By: Kevin Duarte and Yuliza Hidalgo

Options:

Policing 101: In this workshop we discuss the origins of policing in the United States, the beginning of policing in New York City and the impact the NYPD has had on Black and Brown communities. Facilitated By: Ana Vera

Dream Teams: Join us in this discussion about our roles in standing in solidarity with other groups in and outside of school. We will explore what intersectionality is and its impact on us as immigrants who come from different backgrounds. Facilitated By: NYSYLC Dream Team Network & Brooklyn College Dream Team

How I Make Money by Selling Art and Things: In this workshop speakers will share how they make money selling items, art, clothes, world coins and banknotes, and more. Facilitated By: Bo Thai, Andrea A. Resendiz Gomez, Marie Guiraud, Nicolas Veintimilla
