NYSYLC Scholarship Program

Now Seeking Sponsors for 2023

The New York State Youth Leadership Council invites companies, organizations, and individuals to partner with us by sponsoring our 2023 Scholarship Program in the $1,000 to $10,000 range.

2023 will be the 14th year that the NYSYLC Scholarship Program provides monetary support to students, regardless of their immigration status, who aspire to continue their higher education and be active in the immigrant rights movement.

Scholarship Details:

Priority for this scholarship will be given to students with limited or no means to obtain financial aid for college. Priority will also be given to students without Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or other forms of immigration relief. Awardees will be selected based on financial needs and the intentionality of the application. A small emphasis will be placed on academic achievement.

The NYSYLC Scholarship is open to New York City students pursuing an undergraduate degree in college, Trade School, or Apprenticeship/Certificate Program. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient's school or institution.

About the 2022 Scholarship

The NYSYLC is an undocumented youth-led organization organizing in our community for change. 2022 marks the 13th year the NYSYLC Scholarship Awards Program will provide monetary support to students, regardless of their immigration status, who aspire to continue their higher education, be active in the immigrant rights movement, and wish to continue their commitment in the upcoming years. This year will be the first year we are opening the NYSYLC Scholarship Program to students who will be attending a Trade School, or Apprenticeship/Certificate Program.

Scholarship Details:

Priority for this scholarship will be given to students with limited or no means to obtain financial aid for college. Priority will also be given to students without Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or other forms of immigration relief. Awardees will be selected based on financial needs. A small emphasis will be placed on academic achievement.

In the past, we have offered the NYSYLC Scholarship to students pursuing year an undergraduate degree in college, and we will continue to do so with the addition of accepting applications for students who are attending/will attend a Trade School, or Apprenticeship/Certificate Program

The scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient's school or institution.

Scholarship Award:

We will be awarding 5 scholarships of $500. Awardees will be selected by the intentionality of the application. However, if English is not your first language please note we will not check for grammar and spelling.

Scholarship Eligibility:

-Residing in New York City;
-Be a graduating high school senior, have a High School or GED/HSE/TASC™ diploma;
-Be currently enrolled or will be attending one of the following institutions for Fall 2022: college, or trade school, apprenticeship/certificate program;
-Be recommended by an educator, peer, community member, or faith leader;

☐ Signature! Do not forget to sign the application; if it is not signed you will be disqualified. 

The completed Scholarship Application and Letter of Recommendation(s) are due July 1, 2022 at 11:59 pm
