MAKE CALLS FOR DREAM- Take Action Today!

The vote on the Dream Act is expected to be on the week of the 29th in the House of Representatives, so we need to remind ALL of our New York representatives that we need them to stand up for immigrant youth and to vote YES on the Dream Act. Also, Senator Reid has not filed cloture on the DREAM Act as expected in the Senate so we need to continue calling him and reminding him to keep his promise to immigrant youth and their families. Lastly, let’s get some calls going to Maine Senators Snowe and Collins who need to vote yes on DREAM as well as DHS to stop the deportation of Dreamers. * Make sure to SAVE THE DATE and join us on Monday 11/29/10 for a YLC Rally and Press Conference for the Dream Act, see details below.

1. CALL SENATOR REID: Ask him to keep his PROMISE- we want a vote on the DREAM Act during the lame duck session of Congress!

Dial:  English: 866-877-5552

Sample Script: “Hi, my name is __ and I am calling to thank Senator Reid for his promise to push the DREAM Act forward for a vote after the elections. I urge him to keep his promise and bring the DREAM Act up for a vote in the lame duck session. Thanks.”

2. URGE NY REPS TO COSPONSOR THE DREAM ACT TODAY!

Sample Script: ”Hi, I am calling to ask Representative __ to stand up for undocumented youth and to let us serve. We need you to VOTE YES on the Dream Act during the lame duck session. Show your commitment to immigrant youth and their families by cosponsoring the DREAM Act today. Thank You.”

Breaking News!: Taha will not be Deported!

Thanks to everyone who made calls to DHS and Senators Lautenberg, Menendez, Sires and Scott Weber- Taha was granted deferred action, which means he’ll be able to stay here and go on to college!

Taha’s victory comes at the heels of the deferment of other DREAM students on deportation proceedings: Walter Lara and Benita Veliz.

The overwhelming action and support for these individual DREAMers emphasizes the urgent need to pass the DREAM Act this year.

Thousands of other students like Taha, Walter and Benita need your support and action to make DREAM a reality! Let’s keep organizing and keep up the good fight!!!

Thanks again,
