ATTEND our General Meeting June 1st – Turning Up The Heat

The time has come to take our dreams, aspirations and preocupaciones into our own hands and make change happen. Since 2001 when the federal Dream Act was first introduced we have organized and advocated for this bill. Time and time again our emotions have been toyed with but we are here to take a stand and get the New York Dream Act pass while we wait for a way to fix our situation.

Yes…we know… the days are getting warmer, the school year is drawing to a close, and graduation time has come for some. However, we must continue our efforts to pass the NY DREAM Act and get President Obama to halt the deportations of undocumented youth.

Haven’t had time during the last months to get involved because of conflicting class schedule, work, too much homework? Well now if your chance! Come to our general meeting to find out how to get involved in our campaigns and receive updates about what is happening nationally and here in NY with the DREAM Act.

NYSYLC Launches NY DREAM Act State Campaign

Despite an unprecedented year of action and escalation taken by undocumented youth, the United States Congress failed to pass the DREAM Act in 2010. Additionally, the Obama administration, despite professing strong support for Dreamers, has continued to execute deportations at record numbers and has refused to grant administrative relief to Dreamers. We, New York dreamers and affiliates, will continue to fight for both the federal DREAM Act and administrative relief, and will escalate our actions to levels never seen before.

Currently, we are taking the fight to New York, refusing to accept a purely defensive approach to state and national immigration policies. We will be advocating a NY Dream Act in the coming weeks and months. The NY Dream Act will afford Dreamers the following benefits:

  • Access to state funded financial aid programs, including grants, loans and scholarships
  • Access to NYS drivers’ licenses
  • NYS work authorization
  • Ability to enroll in NYS health insurance programs

Additionally, this bill aims to prevent the deportations of Dreamers by ensuring that the state criminal justice system does not cooperate with ICE and that the criminalization of Dreamers is ended.

Contact legislative@nysylc.org for questions.

Together we can make this happen! Get involved in the campaign NOW – come to our meeting Wednesday, February 9th at 6:30pm
