TAKE ACTION: KEEP CALLING & MARCH FOR DREAM!

Yesterday, Thursday September 16th Dream activitsts and allies all over the country flooded Senate offices with calls in support of the Dream Act. A total of 10,264 calls were made, 997 of them from NY! We need to continue calling so that our Senators all over the country know that they need to VOTE ‘YES’ ON THE DREAM ACT attached as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill next week.

Here in NY, we need to continue pressuring SEN. CHARLES SCHUMER AND REP. NYDIA VELAZQUEZ, who have yet to shown leadership and step up for the Dream Act. While the CHC came out in support of the Dream Act this week, REP. VELAZQUEZ still has not cosponsored the Dream Act. This is why we’re rallying and showing our power next Tuesday, Sept. 21st to SEN. SCHUMER’S OFFICE. Spread the word & see you there!

My first march

Everyone had the same desire … they all wanted equal rights. Last Sunday I went  to the March for America in Washington, DC for the first time. I had many different feelings, I was happy to know that a lot of people were supporting immigrants but I also felt very sad that a lot of people are facing the same problems as me, however my hopes grew bigger than ever. While staring  at millions of tired people who were singing and protesting very loud, hoping that their voices could be heard, I realized that when people get united they can achieve their goals better. Your nationality, age or gender didn’t really matter, what mattered was that you where there supporting something that would benefit millions of immigrants in this country. I really admire a lot of the people who were there, most of them traveled for many hours or maybe for days in order to let Mr.Obama and many other politicians know that we all are together in this and that we will not give up until the day we all get the equal rights that we deserve.
I hope that now that the Health issue has been “fixed” , Congress can move on to the Immigration issues. I hope that what we all did that day and do everyday is worth it. I saw many children crying because of the high temperatures, I saw many people sitting on the middle of the streets or sleeping on the floor because they had walked for hours and their feet could not take it anymore. I walked for about 4 hours, and I was really tired but that didn’t stop me … Not even the fact that one of my sandals broke apart and I had to walk barefoot, I didn’t feel ashamed of this when people gave me a weird look but instead I felt proud of the sacrifices I was making. I’ve always thought that in order to get something very prized you must sacrifice yourself a lot but after being in that march I realized that this is enough! All immigrants in this country sacrifice everyday, sometimes we are trampled just because of the fact that we “don’t belong” to this country. But the truth is that all immigrants living in this country belong here , we all work this land, we all adapt to the American way, we learn the language and also learn the country’s history … WE ARE AMERICA!
