LAST YEAR: No one had Danny’s back.
On Oct. 3, 2011, Private Danny Chen was found dead after being hazed by six superiors.
Eight have been charged in connection with his death and face court-martial in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. So far, five have been convicted and sentenced for charges ranging from dereliction of duty, hazing, maltreatment including racial
taunting, and assault. 3 more remain to be court-martial:
Oct. 24-26 Lieutenant Schwartz, the highest ranking commissioned officer who knew about the abuse and failed to
stop it.
Nov. 5-9 Sgt. Hurst, one of the five originally charged with negligent homicide
Nov. 13-21 Sgt. Van Bockel, the “ring” sergeant who ordered and threatened lower-ranked superiors to haze Danny.
