This past weekend, 4 members of the YLC embarked on a cross country trip to Minneapolis, MN for the United We Dream Network Field Team convening. With over 40 youth from all over the country, we spent 3 days strategizing about the Dream Act campaign and creating a vision of the immigrant rights movement beyond the Dream Act. Over laughter and tears, we discussed problems that undocumented youth encounter and ways in which we will all work for justice in the lives of immigrant youth. We also prioritized key campaigns to our emerging network including the Education not Deportation campaign, In State tuition battles and the Dream Act campaign. Collectively, the network prioritized fighting for educational access to all regardless of immigration status and humane immigration reform.
As a national team, we emerged from the meetings building new bonds with each other and deepening our political analysis. As Dream Act students and non dreamer allies, we came away from the meeting realizing that we could no longer afford to be afraid and hide in the shadows. We must emerge victorious and continue fighting for our Dreams!
