Update from Cuny is our Future!
Good news! Responding to pressure from students, faculty and staff, the Legislature last week voted down Governor Paterson’s proposal to take $4.2 million from CUNY community colleges midyear. Thanks everyone who sent an Act Now letter. It really made a difference.
Now the big round begins as the State Senate and Assembly consider next year’s budget cuts and tuition hikes – and the US Congress works through the federal stimulus package. Today the US Senate took most of the higher education funding out of the stimulus legislation, but we can still save in the reconciliation process.
